A Word About Birth Centers

Birth Centers

“Birth center” means a facility licensed for the primary purpose of performing low-risk deliveries that is not a hospital or licensed as part of a hospital and where births are planned to occur away from the mother’s usual residence following a low-risk pregnancy.

Willow provides birth services at Willow Midwives’ birth center (as above) and at local hospitals (Abbott Northwestern Hospital’s – The MotherBaby Center and Fairview Southdale Hospital). Both are labor and delivery units of a hospital, but not a birth center. The two models of care (birth center and hospital) are quite different. The reasons why you might choose a birth at one or the other are a matter of preference and/or necessary medical care.
